Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
As you've probably read in the journal, Birmingham branch are helping out with the university botanical gardens' collection at Winterbourne. Last time I went down I took a few photos.

Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
So they dont grow many 'other succulents' !
Or is that a reflection on the photographer's creative eye?;)
Nice pics, nice plants, nice set-up(tu)

Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
I think the spindly thing in with the melocacti may be an arrojadoa or something similar; the gasteria is G. brachyphylla.

Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
There are other succulents, but they're in quite a minority - less than a third of the collection all told. Very, very few mesembs, some haws and aloes, and ascleps, plus the usual MLTs (miscellaneous leafy things)
Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
Is this collection open to the public or is it just for study and reference?
Thord. All kinds of smallgrowing cacti.

Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
The collection is a reserve collection, but is open to the public on special open days I believe. The arid house (the wooden g/h in some of the pics) is open whenever the gardens are.

Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens
That looks a good collection, Stuart, thanks for doing this. They look in pretty good nick.
Do you know the level of documentation of the plants? Do they all have provenance, like collector's numbers or habitat details?
