Aw. I guess they just like it hotter and drier than we can provide here?

Just teasing Julie I think one or two on here keep them, IMHO they are difficult. I think most people have a bogey plant and for me it's psuedolithos.

Re: Surplus Seedling / Plant List
Sounds good, I have a few surplus plants. Should the list be formatted in any particular way?

Really any way you like, Anders - the first two I put up later today will be one in Excel and the other as a .txt file. All I'll do is to put your Forum name and the link to the file (on my site if you send it to me) or on yours (if you give me the URL).

Re: Surplus Seedling / Plant List
I think this approach is too strict, of swaps only. I don't see why you shouldn't allow what I do on my web page at http://ralph.cs.cf.ac.uk/Cacti/forsale.php, where I advertise my spare seedlings etc for modest prices (under ?1 in many cases) and ALSO say I am happy to swap if anyone has anything to swap. This is hardly commercial - in most cases I only have a few plants of each sort, and at these prices I am not out to make a profit. I would genuinely be happy to swap for things I want: see also http://ralph.cs.cf.ac.uk/Cacti/wants.html. On the other hand, I don't just want to chuck my spare plants away!

Re: Surplus Seedling / Plant List
Ralph,
We do not charge for surplus seedling, yes we can swap but we give the plants away just for the cost of postage. I don't see that as restrictive I see it as helping others.
Is it me that has got it all wrong?

Bob
yes, you have got it wrong! :-) Many members are not in the position of having something to swap, so I do not see what is wrong with offering spare plants for sale at modest cost, which would also be a service to these members.

Splitting the forum?
Of course, another approach would be to split the forum into several forums. I'm not suggesting the following are well thought out, but you could have something along the following lines:
Wants / For Sale / Swaps
Cultivation / Propagation/ Seed Growing
Habitat / Trips
Pictures of Plants / Requests for ID
Books / Journals / Information
Equipment / Greenhouses
Branches / Conventions / Meetings
Discussion about the forums
The current forum is rather too big!
