We’ve upgraded many of the branch websites to run on WordPress and you may have noticed each one has a picture at the very top of the webpage. At the moment they are filled with a small selection of Mesemb plants and I would like them each to have their own different image. See https://leeds.bcss.org.uk/ for an example.
I thought it might be nice to get the forum people involved and ask if any of you want to submit images to be used as the header image on a branch website? If you do then please read on.
This is the sort of thing we are after once the crop has been made.
.
.
.
.
There are a couple of simple requirements:
1) each image needs to be one of your own images – we cannot accept any images where the copyright is not your own.
2) each image should be at least 3840 pixels wide (or tall if portrait [and rotatable]).
3) the plant in the image should fill the frame for the most part so that we can get a suitable cropped image (see example below).
4) the image must be of a cactus or a succulent and look OK when cropped to the above dimensions.
How to submit:
1) please send the image(s) to branch_sites@bcss.org.uk --- but before you do.
2) the file name should be your full name. This is so that we can record who owns each image in the event that you want us to stop using it. (each file will be renamed with a number which is then linked to your name).
3) the image needs to be the full uncropped version, which we will crop at our discretion.
We really need about 50 images; there is no closing date, and we will use them as they come in on a first come first served basis after 7 days are up. Branches will be randomly picked from a hat when being allocating an image. If you wish to send more than two images please use WeTransfer. You can send as many as you like.
By submitting images you grant the BCSS permission to use the images, but they will ONLY be used as header images on the branch websites. The images will be stored securely and of course you still retain copyright to your pictures. A name credit is available (displayed in the footer) if you wish (this is optional).
We regret that we can only acknowledge receipt of and use images if they comply with the above specifications. Any unsuitable images will not be used and an acknowledgement won’t be sent.
We hope people are willing to get involved, please.

I tried to send some images but email system wouldn't accept files, even when I just tried to add one, not sure why as I have seent larger files in the past....
I have now used we transfer to send the files - it says my upload was successful and the files will be there for the next 7 days/ I assume they will send you an email with link to download them

Re: WANTED - photographs for the branch website header images - your chance to see your images online
Thanks for the pictures. I shall see if I can get anything from them, but it might be tricky as they aren't exactly what I was hoping for.
This is the sort of crop we are after.
.
. .
.
The width of the plant has to pretty much fill the frame with no background behind it.
Cactus plants seem to want to be photographed from the side or straight down from the top.
Rosette and stemless succulents seem to best looking straight down on top of them.
