Cactus & Succulent Map of the UK

Post by carletonexotic »

Inspired by this thread which is currently pinned but long since dead, I decided to make a quick Google Map of places of interest to BCSS members for myself mostly, but I'm sharing it for anyone else interested.

CLICK HERE FOR CACTUS AND SUCCULENT MAP OF THE UK

I have included three categories:
  • Specialist nurseries and retailers
  • Public gardens / collections
  • BCSS branch meeting places
A further category of private collections open by request would be useful, but I'm reluctant to add these without the express permission of the owners.

Please let me know if there any places I've missed which would be worth adding.

Where is the location data coming from, please?

We've already got a map (made by myself) of accurate branch locations; unfortunately a few of your pins are in the wrong place.

It is a great idea and would welcome help in mapping if you are interested in helping like this.

Hi Chris,

I got the branch meeting locations from here: https://www.society.bcss.org.uk/index.php/branches.html appreciate these may be out of date?

I wasn't aware of your map, happy to remove the branches layer from my map as there is no point in doubling up. I still think it's useful to have other places of interest mapped as a resources. Happy to help out with any sort of mapping, though I'm only a keen amateur!

Thanks. That is interesting and worrying at the same time.

Let me have a look more closely at the maps and data and I'll get back to you.

I've gone back to look but the branches have gone?

https://society.bcss.org.uk/index.php/n ... -more.html

There is a list of nurseries here (some of which are private houses).

We might need some help with maps on the new website if you want to help please email me
https://society.bcss.org.uk/index.php/branches.html (branch website coordinator)

Thanks.
