Re: Label printer
Get a brother p-touch printer, and the laminated labels that go with it. They last pretty much forever, dont fade, and are resistant to water and garden sprays.
There are various models, some handheld with keyboard, some connecting to the computer (with or without keyboard). I find it easiest to prepare a batch of labels on the computer, rather than using a printer with a keyboard, but you may prefer a keyboard. I use the 9mm TZe tape, black on white.

Re: Label printer
I have similar, Brother 2430 PC. Check that the one you buy is able to print from a spreadsheet it makes printing a lot of labels so much easier. I use the 12mm tape.

Re: Label printer
Totally agree with Brother p-touch.
I use 9mm tapes and havenโt bought genuine ones for years, the clones are so much cheaper and last almost as well. Iโve never yet had to replace a faded label.
If you keep your collection records on a spreadsheet, then it is relatively easy to set up a sheet within the spreadsheet formatted for printing. I did 52 labels for seed today in about an hour from starting to enter the species names to having the labels ready to put into the pots.

And that ...... is a real challenge
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs. Recently discovered gorgeous Gasteria.

Re: Label printer
I use these labels with black type on clear labels. Now I have to find out how to keep my plants as long as these last!

Re: Label printer
I use a Brother P-Touch Cube Model PT-P710BT. It is connected via a USB port to the computer and comes with downloadable software which allows you to print direct from a spreadsheet. Can use TZe tapes up to 24mm wide. I got this as a Christmas present so this is a current model. The size of the printer is approximately 5x5x2 inches so takes up very little desk space.
