Is there any chance the photo for the 2024 AGM could be changed? Here's the page: https://bcss.org.uk/event/bcss-agm-2024/
And here's just the photo:
If I were in 2 minds about attending I think this shot of the venue would put me off!
Even just tight cropping to only part of the top 1/2 of the photo would be an improvement.

I agree. Don't judge a book by its cover may be the maxim, but marketing is a most important skill, especially for small and specialist organisations like ours.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs. Recently discovered gorgeous Gasteria.

It matters not what the outside looks like, the only thing that matters is what goes on in the inside on the day. Its not a social event. I think the Society has more to worry/think about than what the building for the AGM looks like. Those who want to attend will do so wherever and whatever the building looks like. (accepted that parking availability is always a concern for some).

From the online pictures of various celebration events, it looks good inside. Unfortunately no one has posted a more inviting exterior image. Google maps does show pleasant images of the street and playing field, but not the building itself. Perhaps an attendee will take a picture for next year?????

It is an attractive hall inside and much more so than the school we used to meet at - and a much more cosy size for the far fewer members attending these days.
I took a photo - you might recognise one or two people!

Re: BCSS AGM 2024 - Unappealing photo!
I am the person who does the events listings and I would dearly love there to be a better picture than that, but that is the image was supplied to use last year.
If any one wants to make a proper poster I would be very happy to see if we can consider swapping the image.
The events listings in general do need proper flyers/posters but the problem is we are listing them months before any publicity material might have been created and 9 times out of 10 no image is submitted.
If anyone wants to volunteer to make posters on behalf of the events (and the events organisers are happy with them) I am sure we would welcome them with open arms.
I myself have made 4 or 5 posters (2x Manchester, 1x Fife and a couple that were used last year), but I can't spend time making posters for every event!

Re: BCSS AGM 2024 - Unappealing photo!
Could there be a general "BCSS event" poster/flyer template that would be used instead for such events? I'd agree that a simple "BCSS AGM 2024" title with the logo and some basic information like date and address would be more visually appealing and "professional" on the website.
(The "visually appealing" part applies to the whole events page in general, not only this particular AGM. Worst case, perhaps the photograph can be simply removed like in the "16th Spalding Cactus Mart (Provisional)" right above?)
