SOUTH WEST CACTUS, SUCCULENT & EXOTIC PLANT FAIR JUNE 24th 2023

Post by tonyironscacti »

SOUTH WEST CACTUS, SUCCULENT & EXOTIC PLANT FAIR. JUNE 24th 2023.

This will be the eleventh year that this event has taken place at our normal venue,

The Portishead Youth Centre,

1, Harbour Road, Portishead, Bristol. BS20 7DD.

This is just 1.5 miles from Junction 19 'Gordano Services] M5.

The venue will be open from 9.30 - 1.30, entry fee £2.

The Snack Bar will be open throughout the entire event.

The whole of the ground floor will be occupied, with stands from Traders coming from different areas of the UK.

A list of those attending are listed here.......

CACTUSWORLD [ Ralph Northcott ].......Ralph is well established here and can be found at other large events around the rest of the country.
He has a large Nursery in N. Devon .....well worth a visit & talking to him with his wealth of knowledge.

COASTAL SUCCULENTs.......Chris has a beautiful Nursery in Rooksbridge, Somerset and this will be his 3rd fair that he has attended. They also
provide a landscaping service for Arid plants in your gardens, if required.

MINT PLANTS........Hayley is back with more of her statement piece arid plants which since her Bristol shop refit in January, she has stocked more of. She also provides mail order supplies plus suitable pots
such as Soparco bowls & BEF pots, again available by mail order.

OGIE PLACIDO.......A large array from our local nursery providing choice Aloe cultivars & other choice plants. The nursery now operates full time due to the demand of
his beautiful plants.

COACH HOUSE CACTI...........David & his wife have been attending our fair for a number of years and its always good to see his lovely Dorset grown offerings.

CLIFF MORCOM...........Good to see Cliff & his wife Debbie with his always changing types of arid plants from Cornwall.
Buyers always make tracks to his stall for the beautiful plants as well as the knowledge he passes on about these plants.

ALAN WEADON........another of our specialist local growers who specialises in the choicer, slow growing plants that are hard to find. Any questions
then he is the chap to ask.

PHIL WHITE.........Phil is also known for selling the choicer hard to find plants plus with more time on his hands means he can now offer them direct to you at our fair.

WILLIAMS CACTI.........Craig has been attending this fair since the 1st year & it is a pleasure to see him come from Yorkshire with his range of cacti & succulents again.

IANS HAWORTHIAS........1st year for Ian at this fair although he is known throughout the UK for his lovely choice plants....glad to have been able to offer a space &welcome to you.

WOODSIDE CACTI........Good to see Carlos & Terri back and there ever changing array of cacti, succulents & cacti related gifts. thanks for making the trip down from Lincolnshire.

BEN TURNER.........3rd year for Ben with a range of plants, well priced & ready to go. Hope the trip up from Southampton is smooth.....enjoy the day.

OTTERSHAW CACTI...........Another year and we welcome back Daniel who had a successful year selling here for the first time. Thanks for coming to the South West for a 2nd time and a good trip
up from Chertsey, Surrey for you.

I'm glad to be able to offer a wide range of sellers from around the country with a number that are not seen elsewhere in the UK. So it makes sense to make the trip and sample what is available here in the South West.

Neighbouring roads & car parks are readily available if the on site car park is full.

Please make a note in your diary, so that you do not miss out on attending.

I look forward to seeing you all with a welcome at the door.

Cheers

Tony.

You can probably still change the original message, if you are fast enough.

I've fixed the year in the title and for subsequent replies. (tu) Had you already fixed the date?

Portishead is very much on the edge of the South-West region and a long way from Devon and my friends in Cornwall. Any chance next year of moving the venue deeper into the South-West, for example Exeter or Plymouth? We do seem to be overlooked down here in this area.

Hi Chris,

This event is run by the Bristol branch with the members & staff that run it living in this area, so it is not possible to do so.

Why not organize a coach to bring interested buyers up to Somerset, being situated right by the Marina there are plenty of restaurants bars & shops for visitors to enjoy whilst here at the Fair?

You have a zone in your area of the SouthWest, so why don't you arrange a similar type of event there, although the catchment area would limit sellers & buyers !

Rest assured we would give everyone a warm welcome, however you decide to travel here.

Cheers

Tony.

With only 5 weeks to go now for our popular June Fair.

All tables are booked up and have been for the past 6 months. Preparations are well in hand with an update going out to all Traders in the next week.

As well as the usual traders we have a few new additions to our line-up, to temp you to turn up and buy !

Any changes I will notify you on this post, as and when they occur.

Start saving your pennies ready for our BIG event.

Cheers

Tony

Here are some photos from the start of the Fair. Long queues starting from half an hour before the doors open & the usual very varied selection of diverse arid & exotic plants for visitors to buy. The public again seemed to appreciate the huge selection of plants on offer. Also plenty of space & time to talk and to peruse & discuss, with plenty of food and drink on offer to sustain them. See you all next year again !
