One moment, while carrying the tray with tephro-maihueno-opuntio beasts, was enough.. One moment = 30 mins of pricking the spines out from skin and sweats

Re: Unwanted spines
And you'll be finding them for days ..... and days
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Don't use your teeth to pull anything out. Before you know it, you have a spine in your gum or tongue. You don't want that!

Re: Unwanted spines
Going over the area gently with a nailbrush under running water will shift lots of glochids. Drying your skin afterwards needs a bit of thought - something disposable that you can blot with (kitchen roll) is best.
Phil Crewe, BCSS 38143. Mostly S. American cacti, esp. Lobivia, Sulcorebutia and little Opuntia

Re: Unwanted spines
When I was younger I had a thing for loose knitted jumpers (i.e. the weave was quite open).
It took forever to detatch me from a Mammilllaria bombycina on one occasion. Freeing one bit caused another part to get hooked.
I can't remember who won, the jumper, my cactus or my Mum...... yeah, probably my Mum.

Re: Unwanted spines
Maybe this is the reason cowboys wear leather chaps.
I did think of buying a leather potting apron - until I saw the price.
