New event for next year; The Autumn Cactus and Succulent Show at RHS Harlow Carr on 23 September 2023

A cactus and succulent show will be held at RHS Harlow Carr for the first time next year. Organised by volunteers from Bradford and Leeds branches, it will take place on Saturday 23rd September 2023.
The Autumn Cactus and Succulent Show will be held across the 3 rooms of the Bramall Learning Centre, an eco-friendly building with a Sedum roof. For show entrants, there is easy access from the car park for the staging of plants. In addition to the show classes, a large sales table, demos and displays are planned.
An early autumn date allows summer and winter-growing plants to be exhibited and lets visitors see and be inspired by a wide range of cactus and succulent species. The show will feature collection, educational and display classes, all with different judging criteria, with the aim of giving as many BCSS members as possible the opportunity to enter their plants and have a chance of winning a certificate.
Harlow Carr, just outside Harrogate in North Yorkshire, is the only one of the RHS’s 5 gardens not to have held a BCSS event. Of particular interest to our members is the newly-expanded Subtropical Garden, planted with a range of Aeonium and x Mangave cultivars, and the Alpine House, likely to have a good selection of hardy succulents and South African bulbs on display in autumn. Harlow Carr also hosts fruit and vegetable, sweet pea, cyclamen and 2 alpine shows each year.
I will be sharing the show secretary role with Sue from Leeds branch. For more information, to volunteer or to request a show schedule when it becomes available, email secretary@bradford.bcss.org.uk
