Bought this as something else (Opuntia pusilla) at the NW Cactus Mart. It was in bud and clearly not that. Tunilla soehrensii? Any ideas? Still pleased about it as I wanted more Tunilla anyway. Am up to three now😂.

It is. In real life there is a little more purple.

It is not Airampoa (Tunilla) soehrensii because the flowers would be yellow and I cannot think of an Airampoa ( Tunilla) with dark red flowers with a hint of purple. It could be one of the many Caribbean small Opuntias like O. pusilla but again that has yellow flowers also.

Thank you Ray.

Interesting. It was the flower colour that made me rule out pusilla.

Hi Darren just had a quick look through the Opuntia section of my photo library of my plants and 2 plants similar to yours with the same flower colours were Opuntia rutilla ( name very similar ? ) and Opuntia fragilis cv freiberg.
Check those names out and I hope this helps.

Here’s a Tunilla from the Mirador del Payogasta with similar coloured flowers.

The camera on the phone (and indeed my SLR) struggles with this type of red / purple colour.

Thanks Mike. That does look very similar. The segments on my plant are perhaps a little more rounded but otherwise a good match.
