Pretty much what Ralph says. He is growing in pumice to help sort out a problem but I’ve grown them in pure cat litter and they were fine but I found the watering difficult. I’ve also grown them quite happily in ordinary cactus soil.

Just be careful about watering in early spring and autumn when they might not dry out. Something to avoid.

A quick google tells me it's quiet common and is regarded as an invasive species in Southern Australia, so I suppose the seeds I collected last summer are of no real value.
I like it as a novelty plant. I've had it a long time. Origin unknown....

It may be common but it's quite showy. I have 3 from different places.
