June 2013 - "Memories"
Picture of a plant that holds special memories for you. Maybe it did well in a show, or it was a gift from someone who encouraged you early on, first time flowering, things like that.

My Notocactus lenininghausii is an old friend as I grew it from seed sown in 1975. Over the past few years it has suffered a bit due to an enforced sojourn in the open air in 2006 and a move of house in 2011 during which it became de-potted. Last year, however, I was delighted with this magnificent show of flowers in August.

My oldest plant. Got it as a small offset more than 30 years ago, it has managed to survive all the mistreatment I put it through and still look good.

I'll go the other way, from large to small. A Blossfeldia liliputana I had on it's own roots for 15 years, originally raised from seed by Tom Jenkins that came through in a cold greenhouse all that time, but went in that bad winter a couple of years ago. The 2p coin is exactly 1 inch across. The plant was a small single head when I first got it.

In memoriam of John Davies an offset of one of his Gymnocalyciums rescued by Ray Allcock and distributed to members of Liverpool Branch who knew John.
Re: June 2013 - "Memories"
Sorry if anyone feels this photo is not appropriate but it holds many memories for me. The lady is my mother who passed away after a dreadfull prolonged illness in 2011 aged 90. My mum only started to collect cacti & succulents well into her 60's and I was to blame for that. Many of the plants shown were mine and seemed to do much better when I gave them to her.Her conditions were ideal. Of course the plants have now for the most part gone (a sad story for another day) as well as the house which has been sold and is undergoing many alterations. The photograph is one that appeared in a local newspaper when they ran an article abolut mums obsession! Many memories tied up in that photograph. I am not bothered about the competition; just felt it fitted in with this months topic.

Hi Ernie
That's a magnificent e bupleurifolia, she was a 'good grower' and the photo fits the title of the thread.
Here's one of my memory plants ( I have lots) you find it doesn't take long before you have plants that you have swapped, been given or purchased from friends & contacts that have memories of when & who you got them from.
Here's a variegated ferocactus Latispinus which Vik bought on impulse & with a bit of quick talking eventually sold to me after he decided he didn't like it, it actually has buds this year so I have my fingers crossed.
