Identification of a Gymnocalycium please!

Post by Maria J »

I have trawled the net to see if I could ID it myself, but haven't found anything conclusive... (and the books I have don't help too much in this case)
Can anyone help please?? I hope at least I am right in it being a Gymno!! ;) It has "lateral furrows between the tubercles" as I once read in a book describing this genus!!
I bought it in Dobbies at the weekend, well actually there were two in avery oblong pot (2 for the price of 1! :D), so I potted them up individually. This is the slightly larger of the two:

Tending more towards cacti :D, particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

I'm not really a Gymno expert, but I would go for a form of Gymnocalycium damsii, or if not, something closely related.

A flower will give confirmation (or clues) Later.

Thank you both very much! I will hope for a flower soon, but in the meantime will put it down as G. Damsii with a (?) :D
