Last season I had a good show sowing seeds in Tesco finest. As there is no feed in this could you suggest a possible fertiliser to add to compost prior sowing. Thank you

Re: Seed raising compost
I don’t add any feed before germination, but I also don’t use the baggy method so I can easily add a small amount of soluble feed to the water I spray the seedlings with, once germinated.
I’ve seen people say that seedlings don’t need feeding, but my experience is that a small dose of fertiliser does perk them up now and then.

Re: Seed raising compost
From other threads on the forum I picked up that Chempak feeds have all what's needed for inorganic substrates, so should work with moler clay.
As a side note, I'd be very careful with using moler clay on its own, when it dries it seems to suck out moisture off everything around, including plant roots...

Yes Cidermanrolls, I also feed my seedlings and they do benefit from it.
For MatDZ, you are correct but as I use the baggie method I do not really get this trouble. Thanks both.

Ah yes, while still in the bags that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe that's why it worked for me initially as well.Eric Williams wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 4:52 pm Yes Cidermanrolls, I also feed my seedlings and they do benefit from it.

Re: Seed raising compost
If you use purely mineral mix, assuming no nutrients or trace elements are derived from the mix itself which is unlikely, you need a balanced fertiliser that provides all the trace elements normally obtained from the organic part of potting soils, one similar to those suitable for hydroponics.

Re: Seed raising compost
Try the right arrow. The dots between 6 and 44 are sort of "hidden" pages. They are there, but the dots prevent a whole list of numbers appearing 1 to 44Eric Williams wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 2:22 pm Hi Simon thanks for reply. I go from page 1 to page 6 next page is 44 lol.
