Arid bed winter shelter

Just a quick update on my arid bed for those who remember my previous posts on the topic. I built it and planted it up in spring and this will be its first winter. I've designed the shelter to be open at one end to improve airflow but also so I can see look at and admire the plants from the house over winter.

I've used a reinforced tarp rather than a polycarbonate sheet or similar purely for economic reasons - definitely not the sturdiest material but easy to dismantle temporarily when high winds are forecast.

Like you I'm hedging my bets, last years horror show could of been a one off, but its not in our hands.
So I’ll be doing the in/out dance next weekend, and building the shelter
I've been gifted some polycarbonate sheeting, so the roof will be upgraded.

To give people an idea, this was my shelter over the dry bed last winter. Used a clear tarpaulin and it worked very well, and it had side curtains for the worst of the weather

I'll definitely be adding some side panels to keep the sideways rain out. Polycarbonate sheets are so expensive at the minute so will be keeping an eye out for any free or cheap secondhand ones.

Well it's and running. I did have some polycarbonate sheeting this time round, but still had minor leaks. So just cover with clear tarpaulin for peace of mind. Structurally its much better.
I also built some temporary shelters for the grouping of corten steel rings and another to cover agavescat the back of the bed.

It acts as a temporary greenhouse for the likes of parrasana, etc, that need to stay dry to overwinter.
