Pretty sure that I got this little chap from Ralph Martin earlier this year (messed up my spreadsheet and I'm not 100% certain)
Think it is now Lobivia cinnabarina LB 2383 from 30km West of Caneletas 2160m ? If Lobivia as such still exists.
Whatever it is I was really surprised at the size and colour of the flower, nothing to do with me as I've not had it long but I thought it may be of interest.

Re: Lobivia 2383
Yes, I don't have any L. cinnabarina (LB2383 or otherwise), so something has gone adrift I suspect.
Nice plant though.

Re: Lobivia 2383
Thanks, Ralph and Phil. Wonder where I got it? May have been my last visit to cactus mart, not always sure who the seller is at those.
If it's of interest I found the name on here:

But as Spike Milligan once said: "A rose by any other name would be a cabbage." Whatever it is and wherever it's from I like it!

Re: Lobivia 2383
LB 2383 was listed for the last time in Ludwig's 2010-2011 list (published late 2010) as as unnamed species:
When collectors bring back seed from habitat there can often be changes in identification once a plant flowers (if there were ripe fruit on a plant there almost certainly wouldn't have been flowers). Perhaps his initial identification was cinnabarina (and this was passed on to Ralph's and Christophe's databases) but this was later revised in view of the flower.
I still reckon this is L. cardenasiana - the flower is quite distinctive - and looks to fit based on the location. Rausch, in his 1970s books has cinnabarina around Sucre. with cardenasiana further south, to the east of Tarija. The LB location, 30km west of Canaletas, is in the cardenasiana blob (Google thinks Canaletas is in a rather barren spot halfway up a mountain but I'm assuming it's not too far from here). Finally, Tomasz Blaczkowski has it as "cardenasiana aff." on his website http://www.lobivia.pl/foto.html
I only have one older list than this (for the year before) where, again, it is just 'sp.'When collectors bring back seed from habitat there can often be changes in identification once a plant flowers (if there were ripe fruit on a plant there almost certainly wouldn't have been flowers). Re: Lobivia 2383
Thanks, Phil for all your effort. That looks pretty conclusive; L. cardenasiana it is. Label will be amended.
