Excellent job Chris. A little prayer to the god of weather and we get 3 days of clear blue sky. Seeds in my 'given up on them' corner have germinated and worries over watering have been assuaged .Of course though you were all right , it's easy to see that everything besides my seed sowing has been growing really well and my only concern is trying to find and stop the rodent that is eating my echeverias.

It must be this warm (not hot, not cold) and moist (not wet, not dry) atmosphere which has encouraged the mealies.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

I used to live in Lancashire and I did then as I do now - open all roof lights, wall louvres and doors in the Spring and leave them open until October. Ventilation is the key combined (as Nick states) with good compost drainage. I can't see any reason to close the door if it's raining. It will just trap the damp in the greenhouse.

I think the plants are dry, but after this weekend we've another bout of wet weather, after having 5 weeks of rubbish weather this past, well, 5 weeks.

If an outside thermometer is showing 20degC in early August what would you expect the same brand of thermometer to be showing inside the greenhouse on a cloudy day?

Has anyone done a DETAILED study of plants in their native environment under a range of 'good' and 'adverse' weather conditions?

I can tell you one thing about plants in the wild - they get watered when the weather is cloudy and raining. During summer, I usually water my plants when conditions are cool, I don't water them when it is really hot and sunny.

It has been like this nearly every day (with the very odd exception) since 25 June..... If it hasn't been like this it has been raining. Only one or two days have been sunny. There is a bit of sunshine in the picture, but only the 5mins it took me to take the pictures.
