Rescue 1

Post by youngie »

I have been given some plants that have on an office windoledge for many years (8+). The chap who owned them has retired and asked me to take them. They are in quite a state and many need naming.

This should be quite a chalenge.

Good luck John! Some fresh soil and a little more light will do them the world of good!
There's alot of pleasure to be gained from restoring old pants to health and vigour.

As to what they are - here are some guesses!
1,2,3 and 5 - possibly all Mammillaria vetula gracilis (alos known by many other names)
4 - Possibly a Ferocactis
6 - Hard to tell - a closer shot might help.

13 looks like Parodia (formerly Notocactus) mammulosa.
No 11 could be the Rebutia it claims to be. It looks like Brian Fearn's handwriting (Abbey Brook) but I can't quite make it out!

Further guesses
7 - Mammillaria vetula gracilis
8, 10 different Rebutias
9 Maybe an Echinopsis

Tending more towards cacti :D, particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

I'm sorry Mike, I know I shouldn't mock a typing error as I make *many* myself! BUT 'restoring old PANTS to health & vigour' conjures up all sorts of ideas, lol!!
