Re: The tiniest greenhouse tour

Good display. Same as Juster I use a mix but I have found the 6" and 7" square BEF pots to be quite deep and best for planta like Aloe, Agave and big Trichocereus hybrids - I think they're too deep for anything with shallower roots.

Re: Plant ID please

Terry I got halfway through a post last night and never completed it, sorry! As Diane said, definitely an Aeonium but as well as ciliatum, it looks a bit like some young davidbramwellii plants I have here so it could be them or some other tree-like species like one of the arboreum subspecies instead...

Re: Help with this poor Echiveria

Looking at the white roots I think you may have a decent chance of saving this. First of all you need to clean it up and make sure that there is no dead, black soggy parts left. Then I would place this, without compost, resting in a clay pot. In a week or so, if it hasn't got any more dark or black ...

Re: Wi-Fi Thermometer

30m to the greenhouse is good. Clear or obstructed? Pretty clear. There's a very overgrown hazel near the greenhouse but you can see it from the kitchen window. At the weekend I will test the outdoor sensor to see how far away it will work from (my garden's about 60m long). Tested it today and even...

Re: Re-potting and itchy eyes

If it's your eyes as you describe it is probably particle irritant, rather than bacterial. Are you using perlite in your potting mix? Legionnella is a bacteria of stagnant water so whether the compost was from household waste or other sources shouldn't make a jot of difference. I'd try using thin gl...

Re: Agave talk & pictures

Looking good Wayne. Looks a lot sunnier in the smoke than up here in Notts!

Excitement here is down to these guys,

Re: Wi-Fi Thermometer

I previously used some wifi enabled ones (there: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B99Q69JZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ), but have switched to the same switchbot one. So far for me: -More reliable connection -No issues with humidity yet (the wifi ones suffered, and one ...

Re: Wi-Fi Thermometer

Took some finding on the product website but they reckon the clear range from sensor to hub is up to 120m. I've assumed that will be about half in the real world but should still reach my new greenhouse site, hopefully!

Re: Wi-Fi Thermometer

Where does the hub live? Currently in my kitchen! That's the nearest room to the back garden but with good WiFi. Conservatory and outdoor sensor about 3 to 4m away; greenhouse about 30m down the garden. The hub doesn't have sensors so it is giving my home temperature as the warmest of the three lin...
