Aonium Swartz.

For the Summer I sunk my four foot high plants in their pots into the garden. They are now due to go into green house for Winter. Is there any need to re pot them due to the fact they may have “wee beasties” or such in the soil. I do not need any thing nasty in my green house. Thanks

Re: Loph williamsii

Hi Mat, not a mysterious compost at all but different. I decided to do away with the cat litter part of the mix. I think it is more of an Ariocarpus. type compost. I used a clay type loam from my daughters garden lol, with grit and chippings of small and large sizes. Ratios, 4 loam, 3 grits various ...

Re: Loph williamsii

Thanks for your kind words all. This plant is about seven or eight years old. But the last two years it has grown tremendously fast in its new compost All of my plants with lots of wool are always watered from below, and I use old toothbrush to tidy up all the wool as I did when showing. Nearly all ...

I love Lophs, one, because they give me lots of free seeds, two, they germinate so easily in Spring. IMG_1057.jpeg Thought I would try to see if I could grow a larger one than my normal size plants. Used an experimental compost, but with usual feeding and watering regime, I got this far. Plant is in...

My plant has flowered for the third time this year. It has never done this in the past. Temps today hovering around 104f. Perhaps most plants have closed down due to the heat.

Just a thought on a rainy day. Nearly all of us have out own mix when it comes to growing cacti. Nearly all different but “ it works for me “. I wonder how many use the old what I call traditional mix of John Innes and grit. When I started growing over fifty years ago, nearly every book mentioned th...
