Re: Mexcico in October?
That's great, thanks a lot! I visited Oaxaca once briefly (in 2003) and saw Monte Alban, but wouldn't mind repeating the experience, as you say it's a beautiful place. And I've never been to the Tehuacan Valley; your blogs are mouthwatering! And thanks also for tourist advice re sat nav etc., that's...

Re: Mexcico in October?
Hi Paul,
My work takes me to Mexico City so my plan is to fly from there to somewhere where I would then hire a car and go in search of cacti. Only condition is that it should be reasonably safe to do on my own and not involve days of driving cross country.
Thanks!
Frank

Mexcico in October?
I'm asking for advice which parts of Mexico are best to visit, and which plants to focus on, in October? I'll be in Mexico next year in October on a business trip but would like to add on some time to see cacti in the wild.
Many thanks!
Many thanks!

Re: Pilosocereus ID please
See if you can find it in Columnar Cacti:- http://www.columnar-cacti.org/pilosocereus/page1.html http://www.columnar-cacti.org/ Thanks Dave (and everyone else who helped with this ID)! After looking at all the pictures I'm still not quite sure but it might be pachycladus after all? Anyway, blue is ...

Re: Ariocarpus - Watering.
I water mine every couple of weeks. Having a very free draining mix is much more important in my opinion than how often you water. If your plant is mushy from the roots up it may well have overheated, boiled alive, and your watering regime may have nothing to do with it. Are the roots OK? I agree, ...

There is also a nice succulent border on the south terrace behind the house which recreates from an old painting a border from Edwardian times.
