Hi
What is the deal with hybrid Adromiscus? I've been watching eBay tonight and seen a four leafed plant fetch just shy of £1200 and several others in the £300 to £500 bracket.
I've never got in to this group of plants, so what is the pull that makes the, fetch such awesome sums?
Jon

Re: Can it be rescued?
Jim I would want to give the plant a chance and get those roots in contact with the soil. I'm not yet a convert to cat litter so I would be putting a recovery plant like this on to either pure perlite or a very high sand mix. I might also look to cut away the ribs to avoid having a higher centre tha...

Re: Mammillaria id
Feel free to shoot me down in flames, but.....
Does anyone else feel that much seed in commerce today is subject to hybridisation?
What I, perhaps niaively, see there is a tray if F2 or more accurately Fx hybrids.
We happily accept that Astrophytums are massively hybridised. Why not Mamms?

Wilcoxia viperina
Does anyone grow this successfully to a reasonably controlled size? If so, any tips? I sowed Kohres seeds at the start of the year and have tonight taken the pot out of the propagator and on to the main staging, as the three seedlings are already about 4cm tall. They are living up to the name and ar...

Re: Mammillaria napina
That's the seller I had seen. I was mistaken when I suggested Wales. There are some very good sellers on eBay and there are some others. Sadly, cacti are not immune from being seen as a way to make a fast buck. There are also some very strange bidding practices going on with some sellers. My own exp...

Re: Mammillaria napina
Looks very much like the plants advertised on eBay recently as Mam napina. From memory a seller in Wales. I almost wrote to the seller suggesting he checked his identification but stopped short thinking it could be that the plants have been force grown and are currently very non-characteristic. Wasn...

Re: Bamboo pots
I use a lot of terracotta pots, particularly for any pots 6" or more in diameter (but I also use grit sand - see the drainage post where one member trashes this material - so maybe I'm not a serious grower). I've never worried about the root matting that you can get between the soil and the pot...

Re: Potting on time for one-year-olds?
No hard or fast rule here, but if it were my pot I would have repotted those in the last month, whilst still dormant. I can see at least 14 plants and two or three different vigours. If you don't repot now at least one of two things will happen, the big plants will swamp the small ones and/or the ro...

Re: BCSS Seeds
A couple of months on, is anyone having good results with this year's seed? I've got fewer than a dozen seedlings out of 20+ packets. The other suppliers packs are showing much better results. This is not a dig at the people who give their time to sort, pack and send out the seed, but it might be a ...

Re: Heating question
I recommend you buy a good quality electric heater. The hysteresis on the thermostat is important for costs and a heater designed for use in a wet environment could just save your life. Don't stint is my advice. For insulation. Take a look at twin wall polycarbonate. For years I used bubble insulati...
