Re: Pygmaeocereus bieblii
Chris the real problem is this: Botanists like to try to understand what is related to what. This causes them to stress similarity as being important. Looking at, e.g. cacti, in this light tends to result in them deciding many things "are really just the same, apart from minor differences"...

Re: Pygmaeocereus bieblii
Colin nevertheless, as with many of the Lexicon's synonyms, there are several forms / species / whatever of Pygmaeocereus going round called P. bylesianus, as well as others (different again) under P. akersii. Whether they should be called separate species, or just cultivars, is a rather pointless a...

Re: Pygmaeocereus bieblii
Tina, yes, there are a few other species of Pygmaeocereus, but P. bieblii is a new one (recently featured in KuaS, the Germany cactus journal). They are nice plants to grow as they are only a few inches high, and have nice frilly white flowers, which seem to be produced quite readily. Pygmaeocereus ...

Re: Surplus Seedling / Plant List
Tony sorry I was off beam with my earlier comments about it not being in your remit, which I now accept it is. However, I was going off what I found on BCSS webpages (a little misleading about who is on the FG&P) and the Forum itself (about the moderators having been appointed by the FG&P to...

Re: Pygmaeocereus bieblii
Thanks all, for your comments. Obviously, this plant is slowly making its way into cultivation, but hasn't quite got here yet.

Colin
thanks for the correction. It does indeed look more like Ceropegia radicans. I'll have a word with the chap who supplied me with the plant! All the same, its a nice flower.

Re: A few pics
Colin What are you on about? :) Ceropegias are popular here, just tricky to get hold of. Here's a Ceropegia haygarthii [*] which flowered for me last year; grown in the house as a houseplant, rather than in the greenhouse: [*] See Colin's post below. In fact, it looks more like Ceropegia radicans. [...

Re: Propagating Units
I plant my seeds in March, usually. In early autumn, I ease off on the daily watering routine, and start to open the propagator a bit, to get the seedlings used to lower humidity In latish autumn, when the temperatures in the greenhouse are cooler, I then pot the seedlings out. Ones for my own colle...

Re: Propagating Units
Fair point Bill, but I can hardly type a whole 1.5 hour talk into the forum and post all the pictures I use to illustrate it! I did actually give a brief summary of my propagator. Here's a picture without the lid on, with the seeds all sown and ready to go. So, just to respond to Susanne's question ...
