Cactus ID please?

I've recently rescued a couple of cacti from my local Co-op - I say 'rescued' because a 'helpful' staff member had obviously been watering them and I found the first in a puddle of water (fortunately in the ceramic pot), and the second similarly rather damp, and at the check-out the assistant advise...

Re: Net curtain for preventing scorching

Thanks for the suggestiond/advice. I have a mix of succulents and cacti (mainly succulents) - I'm like a child in a sweet shop when I see something with different shaped/coloured leaves! The ones specifically I'm thinking that possibly could do with a bit more sunshine are a Sedum Rubrotinctum...

Net curtain for preventing scorching

Hi everyone, Is a net curtain enough to prevent scorching in a sunny window (more or less west-facing)? My growing collection of succulents are on my bedroom/office windowsill, which is more or less north-facing, but it's a fairly large window, and does get a side-swipe of sun for a couple of hours ...

Re: Hello from Derbyshire

Sorry I'd not checked back again on this thread - work's just gone completely crazy recently! Howie's doing okay, no worsening of the brown ends. It's only the very ends of the tips on some, so not really noticeable. He's got a couple of ends that have snapped off on a couple of lower leaves which I...

Re: Crassula perfolata advice needed

Thanks all for your contributions, and my apologies for the delay in responding - work went crazy this week and between that, a number of doctors appointments and an Open University online summer school I don't seem to have had a minute! Thanks Chris for the ID correction. Tbh, I was never quite sur...

Crassula perfolata advice needed

Hi everyone, I wonder if someone could give me some advice on my Crassula perforata please. I managed to get him through the heatwave okay, but over the last few days I've noticed some new small leaves shrivelled up. Conscious of the dangers of over-watering (I lost my first C. perfolata due to over...

Re: Hello from Derbyshire

Thanks for the welcome.

I've read somewhere that you can trim off brown ends on Haworthia leaves with a sharp scalpel, but I've been reluctant to try it because I don't want to do any further harm.

Hello from Derbyshire

Hi everyone, Well I guess I'd better introduce myself! As you might have guessed from my username, I'm Rachel. I'm from Chesterfield in Derbyshire (the one with the crooked spire), and I'm a (very) novice succulent herder. My other "hobbies" are creative writing (I started writing a novel ...
