Re: Winter growers and their requirements

I treat my Conophytums as Autumn and spring growers, keeping them dry in december, January and early february. My Tylecodens are treated similar except if we get a few days of bright weather, they then get a splash of water. The Conophytums might not mind this. But if you grow African bulbs that ar...

From a fly’s point of view they could even be considered attractive. Nothing beats Brachystelma Barberae, now there’s a plant for the show bench.

Re: Indoor Succulent Garden

Thanks Tony, I see it now, maybe it should have been green rather than white. There was a bonsai-looking Ficus Petiolaris at a show in the US that was trained around a rock that had a running miniature waterfall incorporated. A drop of washing up liquid would have livened it up. I think it had to b...

Re: Ecehveria Maria worries

They look OK, probably a little stretched and open. These are quite cold hardy, they should be fine in an unheated greenhouse if kept dry over winter. They certainly don't need to be moved into the centre of a room overnight. UK winters have very little daylight, so it is best for many succulents t...

Re: What seeds did you order? 2023

I've been very reserved so far (for me!) Just one order (so far) from Rare Palm Seeds, (and no more planned but plenty of saved seed from various Echinopsis, Hildewintera and Chamaelobivia crosses) Screenshot_20231114-192100.png I’m jealous. I didn’t spot they had pintilla back in stock and the “no...

Re: Todays photo

I checked PP 909 |= Pyrrhocactus horridus ? Nah, it's how George Theodoris aka "Prickly Pete" from https://artisanplants.com/ numbers his hybrids. Speaking about which, did anyone (Allan?) order from George to the UK? Since the hybrid was so attractive, I paid a visit to that link, to lea...

Re: when mice get peckish- mesembs

As was previously mentioned, although they occasionally make a hasty error, by eating the more expendable succulents, it seems like the vast majority of my herbivore attacks were directed at the almost irreplaceable parts of my collection. Since I own no greenhouse, and grow almost of my collection ...

Re: Trying to find a book on cacti

Sounds to me like this one. A 'remarkable' book. 9780195084153-uk.jpg Is it possible for you to expound on the outstanding merits which you used to arrive at the conclusion which is deserving of that complimentary adjective? The Amazon review is fairly informative. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...

Re: Trying to find a book on cacti

I've owned this book since the '80s. It was published in Prague in '81. Here's a link to a book seller: https://www.abebooks.com/first-edition/Illustrated-Encyclopedia-Cacti-Succulents-Riha-Subik/207333583/bd It contains the topics that were described. Could be that one. I remember it being fairly ...
