That is a good, dark-spined form -lovely.
They are actually pretty cold tolerant if dry. I've been trying plants for years as and when I have been able to get them and finally hit on a good spot at the base of a palm that keeps the weather off it - came through my last winter.

Re: outdoor raised bed
Exactly. You might not actually need a raised bed at all.

Re: outdoor raised bed
Not in Portugal, no.
A lot depends on your native soil and climate. I wouldn't dream of mixing organic manure in a raised bed in this country but in Arizona maybe it is the best thing.

Actually, please do - I have no idea what or who you are talking about. I suspect this is aimed at me? Or maybe Stuart? Tina? Tony? Someone else? It is difficult to tell from your nebulous insinuations. Then at least everyone knows where we all stand.

That's the trouble with/ one of the joys of (delete as appropriate) the internet - we post on a forum and have no control over what happens next! Who knows where the discussion will lead?

Re: Trying to find a book on cacti
Sounds to me like this one. A 'remarkable' book. 9780195084153-uk.jpg Is it possible for you to expound on the outstanding merits which you used to arrive at the conclusion which is deserving of that complimentary adjective? i'd take a wild stab at this and say it is based on the book title.
