Re: Aloe ferox
Thanks Joel - I know just the place in my garden  Big digging project next spring. I've also read somewhere that planting out encourages A. plicatilis to form a trunk - and as it encourages growth and offsets too I've got to try it. And if any offsets are giving you too much trouble I'll give...

Re: Aloe ferox
Great post Joel I must've read somewhere (probably Silverhill) that they were winter rainfall so pleased to get better info. I've been hearing about the growth benefits of free root runs and over-potting and will definitely have a go next season. How do you prepare the site before planting out and h...

Re: Aloe ferox
Will read that thread, Mike, thanks. Glad I asked the size hard to tell from a photo! At least 35 years old. Originally grown from seed. I've got two (about 12" high) from seed they're about 5 years old - guess they've got some growing to do (and I've got some waiting) RE flowering (bea...

Re: Aloe ferox
Lovely plant. How tall is it? It's hard to estimate the size from a photo.
How did you get it through last winter outside?

Re: Paging Philip B.......
Thanks Peter, PM sent.
Can we get a sticky on this - I don't know Philip but think it's probably better if we publish alternative contact details prominently so forum members notice it rather than hassling him if he's not well. I feel bad that I've sent him two emails about pots
Cheers

Re: The Russians Are Coming er Cultivating!
Hello Marianne Welcome to the forum It's nice to hear from someone in Russia and get some information on the hobby over there. When I referred to 'political' I wasn't thinking of any restrictions on growing cacti ( though the restrictions on L. williamsii is interesting, presumably as Peyote is the ...

I've emailed him twice - the first time was just over a month ago.
I was told he was ill but no further details.

Re: help with identification
Hello Again Lucie
The fatspikeyone is most likely Aloe claviflora (a bit more my area than Lithops )
The round one is an Echeveria (could be one of a lot of different Echeverias)
Don't know about the tall one.
Can't help with the cacti in the trough
