Re: Blossfeldia liliputana KK 1704
You've done really well there then, Christer - they're fairly rocketing along.

Re: Flowering now - Blossfeldia
The same plants in 2009 - as you can see they grew a fair bit that year. (Your seedlings are looking lovely, by the way, Heather - I'm not so keen on the grafted plants - just personal taste )

Re: Flowering now - Blossfeldia
Here are three of mine, which came to me as 6-year-olds (I think) from Phil White - this photo was taken in 2010. The plants are roughly twice that size now, although still in the same pot. http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4015/4527825469_3c2863984b.jpg I also keep Blossfeldias under the bench as they ...

Re: Flowering now - Blossfeldia
OK now, someone, please contradict me, and tell me you have done it... Yes, please do, as I'm trying to root some at the moment! I've got them to root, as has David Quail. Individual heads seem only to want to root for me if they're pretty big, otherwise they seem to waste away to nothing. I didn't...

Re: Astrobergia
Yes, Larry, I agree - I'm more interested in them from the perspective of what they might tell us about genetics, rather than wanting one as a rather expensive trophy...

Astrobergia
Muddling around the internet I discovered the existence of alleged "Astrobergias" - i.e. intergeneric leuchtenbergia x astrophytum hybrids. Has anyone tried to make one of these? They certainly convincing as hybrids to me rather than as more mutant astrophytums (given my limited experience...

Re: A few more opuntia flowers...
They're amazing, aren't they? It reminds me a little of those leafcutter ants you see carrying massive leaves around.

Re: A few more opuntia flowers...
Probably a form of Cumulopuntia rossiana? This plant came to me as "Maihueniopsis sp. red fl" but it's definitely not a maihueniopsis... I'll try to catch this flower open in the sun. If we have any.
