Good point, Phil.
Many of the plants I buy are so severely infested with mealy
bugs and other pests.

Re: Boophone disticha cultivation

The plant was dormant over the winter and started to grow in April but the rate of growth is rather disappointing.
Maybe I should increase the amount of fertiliser as you mentioned water more frequently And take it out of direct sun.

Re: Hardy Aloes in the UK garden

I think you got off lightly! Aloes were particualrly badly here over this side of the country. What was your low temperature, do you know? I think the lowest was -3 deg C. Shouldn’t have been the problem for many Aloes… if not the exceptional rainfall in Autumn and winter. Even with the cover the s...

Boophone disticha cultivation

How do you grow Boophone disticha?
I have a small plant which barely grows and
I find it rather difficult to keep alive :|
Do you have any growing tips?

Re: Hardy Aloes in the UK garden

Only Aloe striatula survived the winter
with no damage at all.
Most of A. Juvenna, A.aristata and Spinossisima turned into
mush

Re: Aloe ID

The plant has become leggy and looks rather like a bonsai,
miniature version of marlothii

I was thinking maybe it’s better to plant it in the ground ?
Would the stem break because of the weight of new
leaves?

Aloe ID

Hi, can someone please help identify this Aloe?
The plant was grown in a rather small pot for over
20 years and kept on the dry side for most of the time.
It has approximately one metre tall slim stem.

Re: First Gasteria flower of the year

Flowering season in my greenhouse has begun. Most of
the Gasterias started to grow and have flower buds already.

Re: Storing pollen

Mike, thank you. No dessicating or science lab stuff needed? Dessicating might increase the longevity of pollen but have not tried any special treatment yet. Pollen is stored together with food and I do not always seal the bags properly but so far It works for me. There is definitely room for impro...
