Re: A peek under the covers.
I appreciate all the replies, there does seem to be a consensus that a degree of suitable air flow is essential to minimise the optimum conditions for mould and fungi. This does seem to be predominantly grey mould botrytis but there are some white fungi and black moulds. As has been noted, the combi...

A peek under the covers.
I had been wondering what the consensus was regarding fleece covered cacti in cold greenhouses, namely to peek or not to peek?. I have tended to leave mine covered given the struggle to separate fleece from spines combined with only being able to see during daylight at weekends due to work times. To...

Re: I chickened out...
I thought until now my tealights and terracotta pot in enclosures was working well. The downside of going to work in the dark and returning home in the dark means I only got a good look at everything yesterday after just under two weeks of sub zero temps. I thought that I had kept the enclosure temp...

Re: Show me your greenhouse in winter!
We'll you did ask, here are some real time photos, 1 degree Centigrade outside right now. The pics show, outside, two inside enclosures and thermometers outside and inside enclosures. I think the pictures are in reverse order

Re: I chickened out...
I have a similar dilemma, I have for the first time in about 25 years left almost all of my various cacti in my cold greenhouse. All my Euphorbia etc I've brought into the window ledges. Greenhouse is bubble wrapped and I have two further bubble wrap enclosures inside. Like yourself I was ok until t...

Re: Ferocactus black mould
Thanks for the information, I will have to keep an eye out for any signs of nectar production. I'm wondering if it's season specific as I noticed it last year on a large Opuntia in October. This made me bring it out of the greenhouse and overwinter it in the house. I was concerned that the damp and ...

Re: Ferocactus black mould
I've seen some of my Opuntias secreting sap bun not any Ferros, this one came like that. I'll try a gentle brushing to see if I can remove the discolouration.
Thanks for the replies.

Ferocactus black mould
Any suggestions on dealing with black mould on my Ferocactus horrida v.brevispinus.
I have two, the one on the right seems unaffected.

Re: Looking for an i.d please.
Thank you for the replies, I am thinking it is a P pringlei. From looking at on line sources there does seem to be quite a variety of spination in terms of colour and size. Combine this with the fact that most pics show mature specimens aka Giant Cardon cactus it's no wonder I was stumped. Thanks ag...
