Is this with plastic pots? I have some 2" BEF pots I bought 2nd hand and, as this method sounds appealing, I would rather not melt them when testing!Herts Mike wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 10:04 am But then having sown the seed the first watering is by standing the pots in boiling water until it has soaked up.

Re: Advice for a novice on this arrangement
Thanks for all the replies. Now that I've had a chance to look at others collections on here I see that everyone keeps things in separate pots. I'll get some clay pots and separate them. Will it be a problem to re-pot again so soon? @MatDz Some small bits of C.Marchandii fell off as I was potting i...

Re: Lapidaria margaretae care tips
Great information here, lots learned today! May I just ask for a confirmation if this little fella here is a Lapidaria? I found it in a pot of a completely different succulent! Also, how should I look after him? I watered it recently and plan to wait until it starts shriveling, although I'm not sure...

Re: Various Cacti and Succulent ID's Solved
I have a westland cacti and succulent compost. If it's anything like the other "cacti" mixes I bought get a bag of perlite (10l a tenner in Homebase) or some 2-6 mm grit (plenty in HB as well, although availability is rather sporadic nowadays) and use a half of each as Ed suggested - for ...

Thank you everyone! Some selected follow-up questions and thoughts below: This thread may be of some interest. https://forum.bcss.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=162843 Ugh, that looks exactly like what I would rather avoid at this stage, but thank you for the link - well worth reading and bookmarkin...

Tolken's books are not an easy read and I certainly wouldn't recommend them to a beginner with the genus. [...] This is exactly what I understood from your review in the "British Cactus & Succulent Journal" - no one's perfect I guess. Luckily my question here is solved, but I would lo...

Re: Succulent peperomia care
I'm doing a bit of an archeology work here, hope it's not against the rules! I reckon it could be Peperomia pecuniifolia. I think this species gets mixed up with Peperomia 'Hope' a lot, which is a hybrid of P. deppeana and P. quadrifolia, according to its patent. [...] Just imagine my surprise when ...

Saving seedlings from mould?
As my post history might tell, I have recently sown a batch of seed list seeds (from here and the MSG) and while most of the pots look pretty promising, I am afraid I contaminated two with mould spores. Aylostera heliosa condorensis already germinated two seedlings (marked with arrows), but there is...

Re: Which Crassulae do I have here (references re. pyramidalis & friends) Solved
Thank you all for useful info and links! Seems like the middle one can simply be the "f. medio" I linked to, so just a different form of pyramidalis. I'll definitely read all the http://www.crassulaceae.ch materials, a quick glance was enough to tell it's a lot of quality information there...

Re: Advice for a novice on this arrangement
I do not have the C. marchandi (a lovely one, just landed pretty high on my wishlist - would you consider a cutting swap?), so don't have factual experience here, but from its appearance it might have similar needs to barklyi, which for me means watering every month or so. Pyramidalis seems to be ha...
