Re: New plant isolation

I rarely buy a new plant now, but if I do, after re-potting and the like I isolate it by creating a "moat", that is to say, put the pot in a pot saucer, then put that saucer in a bigger pot saucer, and fill the space between the two saucers with soapy water... It stops anything crawling ou...

Re: Gymno - best value for beginners?

Thank you folks.

That's interesting Terry, and of course makes sense - touches of red would surely make the flowers more attractive to pollinators than the mid grey my eyes see (though I have to confess I rather like the grey!).

Gymno - best value for beginners?

Even I seem to have been able to persuade this little chap to flower for three years on the trot now, two flowers currently out and six more buds on the way.

Hobbyists like myself need a little success now and then to keep us enthused!

Re: Lechuza Pon

Well, a few days after buying a bag of Lechuza-Pon and potting up a couple of plants, I've been back to the web site and it seems they have now added a new product to their range - called Cactuspon! From what I read, it differs from Lechuza Pon in being finer grained, and does not incorporate any fe...

can anyone identify this root stock please?

I'd be grateful if someone could identify this root stock for me, please - I appreciate its a tall order, but I'm sure someone on here will know! The only identifying feature I can come up with is that it is five sided. The Uebelmannia grafted atop it is long since dead, and I was going to throw it ...

Re: Lechuza Pon

Noted, thanks MatDz. I had problems (entirely of my own making) last year using Chempak, so feeding is an issue for me... Use a quarter of what's recommended, and best to forget it from time to time anyway  I too overdid it a couple of times, can still see the odd leaves here and there on ...

Re: Lechuza Pon

Interesting observations, thanks. My plants are also "warmer than usual" (as they live in a centrally heated house) so what you say about the medium drying out more quickly is pertinent and useful to know. As regards feeding, I guess in the long run it is much the same situation as with us...

Lechuza Pon

Any advice please as to whether this is suitable for general use? Am thinking of trying something different to my usual John Innes No.2/ grit mix.
