For what it’s worth, in the case of my fockea edulis I didn’t treat the cut with anything at all and repotted it almost straight away without even letting it dry.

Hadnt thought about a shallower pot. That may be an option for sure. Here’s what I mean with the plant I’ve trimmed. I removed the bit of taproot that had formed last August. I’ve got two fockea edulis on the go currently. One I’m leaving to its own devices and one I’m trimming the roots every year to try and keep the main caudex a better shape. I’ll need about a decade before I know if it’s helping
