Re: Flowers for Succulentophiles

Mike, My dorstenia gigas are giving me worries, two are soo wrinkled- like turkey necks, some tiny green shoots but I'm scared to water in case the roots are rotten, I've been spraying to try to encourage them to get growing, tempted top add tomato feed to the spray bottle- would it work ?. Not all ...

Re: Succulent seed pods

Interesting, it does look a nice shape, good experiment, keep us informed. Did you see the amazing one in a tiny shallow bonsai pot at the National ? Here's two of mine, I only tend to trim of the spindly side roots, I guess they are for anchorage. I tried growing this one in a shallow pot & it ...

Re: Flowers for Succulentophiles

I'm guessing there is a cactus one, we should search & add to it. Its nice browsing these threads every so often. Mike I find Monadeniums much harder to keep long term, they won't be rushed into waking up. Euphorbia francoisii v.crassicaulis rubriflora, Gillian evisson-during her talk, said thes...

Re: Succulent seed pods

one I’m trimming the roots every year to try and keep the main caudex a better shape I'm not sure why trimming the roots would work, surely it would slow its growth down as it needs to regrow them. My feeling is you would be better with a shallow pot and/or planting it at an angle. Popped out to GH...

Re: Tylecodon singularis advice request

mike,
Very jealous of these- great looking plants, I used to grow a few for years and then one went blind, corm was alive but it didn't sprout and then the other did the same. Can the tops get scorched, maybe I needed deep gravel.

Re: Succulent seed pods

Hi Ian,
we both need to cross our fingers.
This plant was seed grown by myself several years ago which makes it even more special, you just need to be generous with the water & repotting.

Re: Succulent seed pods

Here's a plant of sarcocaulon herrei thats been flowering recently, I'm not sure how it sneaked in the cactus house but it seems to like it there. This was a lovely gift from a friend who couldn't cope anymore. I don't know if this is definitely going to be viable seed but I have my fingers crossed....

Succulent seed pods

I was tidying up the dead leaves on the fockea's and had a pleasant surprise, seed follicles I've never had seed on any of my fockea's before. Looks a bit like a gherkin or exotic pepper. I really enjoy when I get a surprise like this, its good to still get new experiences with the plants. Any one e...
