Re: Pleiospilos bolusii
My bolusii flowered at the end of August and as with your plant, my bolusii are producing new leaves right now. There has been mention of treating like Lithops, but just bear in mind that bolusii doesn’t sheath like Lithops and although water from the old leaves is recycled, trying to keep bolusii t...

Re: two aloes to id PLZ
Please excuse the first post which had some input from intuitive text…… but whose intuition was incorrect!
The humilis x pratensis is probably more often seen than pure humilis now and has been heavily propagated ( probably by tissue culture)

Re: two aloes to id PLZ
I think the first is an Aloe bakeri hybrid. The second is the Aloe humilis x pratensis which is very popular these days.

Re: Grubs/Maggots
Sciarid fly are attracted to rotting or decaying organic material, whether that is the plant or the compost it is growing in. I remember peat based composts were always a problem when wet, but the problem could be alleviated by using John Innes composts with its reduced peat levels. Allowing compost...

Re: Senecio stapeliformis seeds...
I'm not so sure that it has produced seeds. I think these are the shrivelled remains of the unfertilised ovaries.

Yes, a super little plant. I saw some for sale in my local "chain" garden centre earlier in the year.

Re: Conophytums and bees
My Delospermas are a magnet for hoverflies. The bees prefer Linaria, Anemone and Antirrhinum. Both enjoyed the sunflowers when they were producing. I noticed in my collection over a number of years that the Hoverflies seem only to be interested in the pollen of mesembryanthemum species. Bees tend n...

Re: Getting colademononis to accept pollen
I have had no trouble producing seed on C.colademononis when pollinating with Cleistocactus strausii, xCleistoreocereus or Borzicactus icosagonus. However, attempts pollinating with Echinopsis have so far failed. Cleistocactus are much more closely related to Borzicactus, Oreocereus etc and therefor...

Re: Hello from the Highlands
If anyone from the Highlands remembers the club show events that took place at the Trinity Church Hall - they were my "buying trips" twenty-ish years ago! ;) Hi Ant, I remember giving a presentation at a Trinity Church Hall meeting not too long before Highlands and Islands changed venue. ...
