Re: Three good reasons, why I like Sempervivums
Amazing flower, and great foliage like you say. Does the flower belong to the S. Pumilum x ingerwesenii. Got to get hold of one of these somehow! Sempervivum flowers are actually not that different in their make up to Passionflowers, obviously not exactly the same layout with regards to stamens, but...

Re: More Mesembs
Great stuff, I love the intense colour on the Lampranthus. Looks like you'll have yourself a few Lamp offspring too, if that fly is anything to go by

Re: Naturalisation of a Californian succulent species
The succulents are only small part of a bigger garden. I have very few photos of the whole garden as it's difficult to get the right shot. I apologise for not being succulents http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/stephenprudence/100_2726.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/stephenprudence/1...

Re: Naturalisation of a Californian succulent species
Ian, some if this IDing is tricky, thanks for the ID, Delosperma aberdeenense is much much nicer than Drosanthemum hispidum. Liz, I don't know how well you know Wirral, but there used to be a Carpobrotus deliciosa in Prenton and it was out of control, it was spreading onto the pavements, I think the...

Re: Naturalisation of a Californian succulent species
Thanks for the ID on two plants, one of them I've been searching for ages, and now I know I'm extremely happy. The first one the Sedum oreganum, interesting, very hardy, probably came from cultivation somewhere. The second photo is Drosanthemum hispidum. Fourth photo is a Carpobrotus deliciosa, retu...

Naturalisation of a Californian succulent species
I come across this in my border the other day (the top photo) and I found a positive identification of Sedum obtusatum (a Californian native). Not sure how it would have got here as I'm not sure such species are in cultivation.. anyhow, I've included this and also some photos of other garden succule...

Re: Cold hardy cacti
I'll be trialling my arid bed for the first time this winter, mostly succlent based with many tender succulents, I also have Opuntia, although I'm not sure which.. I plan on putting a shelter over from roughly late October, not for the frost, we don't usually get that until December in normal circum...

Re: Crassula sarcocaulis
Thanks Brian, this puts my mind at rest, Usually trunk forming crassula or Sedums tend to be quite tender. Although I do intend on covering with some kind of cover to keep the rain/frost off, of course cold matters equally as much. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/stephenprudence/100_2215.jpg ...

Crassula sarcocaulis
Hi, I'm growing this plant but I don't know much about it, I picked it up at a nursery because of it's caudex habit. Has anyone grown these or know what to do with them.
What is the absolute absolute minimum temperature these will take in bone dry soil?
Thanks,
Ste

Re: Aloe ferox
Great looking plant, I have a small seedling, and it's tiny and slow growing. How old would you say that beauty is?
