Explosion in my greenhouse
Huernia keniensis decided today was the day to burst it’s two seed pods. Luckily the greenhouse is pretty airtight even with gales outside as otherwise I’d still be finding seeds next year. 230 seeds now separated from their flights. Just waiting for the plant with four seed pods to do the same. 283...

Re: BCSS Seed List December 2021
100% germination of Pachypodium seeds which is unusual. Seeds arrived very dry. Kept for 3 days in a ziplock bag with a wet piece of kitchen roll at a constant 40 Deg C., then sown and into the propagator at 30 Deg C, and most were up within 2 days. The picture shows them at 6 days old, still living...

Re: Mealy bugs in winter

Indeed yes, I used to use a very sandy/gritty JI mix so the soil just drops off, the remainder being gently brus...

Re: Mealy bugs in winter
repotted in pure lava rock Interesting - that must be a lot of lava rock! May I ask where you got it? Online the prices & quality fluctuate all over the place It may seem a lot, but it is worth remembering that it doesn't break down (ever) and is easy to reuse if use it in it's pure form. It do...

Re: Mealy bugs in winter
A few years ago I had a sudden and large infestation of mealy bug in one of my 14' greenhouses housing several hundred plants. It is now clear except for very small localised breakouts from time to time. Those plants that didn't have visible bugs had bugs on the roots on the inside of the pot (not r...
