Margaret, try looking at Ferocactus peninsulae var. townsendianus pictures. I believe some forms have short spines.

Re: Mammillaria flowering time!!
Amazing, Chris. Here in Portugal the peak of the flowering season is well over (this year it was in early April) and all I have now is a few leftovers and the odd late bloomer.

Re: Need some advice
Thank you, Ian. That should teach me not to trust the labels that come with the plants: I checked with a few books I have and with the key at the Turbinicarpus Information Exchange and it seems that my plant is actually a T. krainzianus.
Thank you all.
Thank you all.

Re: Need some advice
Here is a picture of the plant's "neck" (with my subtle confession as a "top dresser" with aquarium gravel): I'd rather not cut off the pups, I like clumps. I suppose that if I b...

Re: Need some advice
Thank you, Stuart. I will try to take a picture of the plant's base and post it here (silly me not to think of that before asking). Ian, I suppose they will. But apart from the size it's the level at which they were produceded that annoys me, I feel that they will always be hanging from the main bod...

Need some advice
Good morning. I have a few questions regarding my Turbinicarpus gracilis , a lovely little plant that puts out a dozen or more flowers every three or four weeks: Last year, in line with a number of ...

Please allow me...
...to introduce myself: I live in Lisbon, Portugal, and I've been on and off cactus-growing for quite some time now. Never too seriously though I am trying to correct that. I have some 200+ plants on a terrasse and a very small greenhouse (aren't they all?...), mostly north american globulars. I sta...
