Re: Handling opuntia

As Tony said, I'd avoid touching the plants as the pads are easily detachable. I'd cut the actual pot off. Should be fairly pot-bound and dry so root ball should be easy enough to handle.

Re: Baobab seed pre treatment

Grew several species years ago. Just soaked in warmish water for two days then plant a cm. or so below the surface. Usually 3/5 germinated within a couple of days. Found that any that hadn't germinated within a week, wouldn't. Would come up with a short stem and two leaves, so might be worth trying ...

Cactus ID please

Hi,

Rooted this earlier in the year, from a cutting someone brought me from South Africa (parent plant below). Probably a hybrid as there are flat stems and others with four ribs. Any idea as I've grown very few 'jungle' cacti over the years? Thanks a lot.

8" Brasiliopuntia in flower

Rooted a couple of pads last year, taken from a mature plant. Never expected this. The bud started developing around six weeks ago and progress has been painfully slow. There is another on the left of the plant which will probably abort considering the time of year.

Cactus ID in Malta

I saw this recently in Malta. Collected a fallen fruit and so far one vigorous seedling through. I thought it may be Aust. Subulata. Any thoughts?

Yucca disease?

I've been lurking on this board since its inception, but this is my first post! This Yucca has grown well for years but suddenly seems to be losing a lot of leaves and the whole thing is starting to look vaguely unhealthy. Any idea why or is this normal? Thanks.
