Re: Astrophytum asterias 'superkabuto v-type'

Transparent (or translucent) pots do not work in practice. You will get algal growth on the inner surface.

Re: National Show Facilities?

Thanks folks! I was hoping for replies based upon first-hand knowledge of the area, rather than advertising. So the "Inn On The Green" in Main St, Coddington is the only recommendation? It is close.

Best wishes,
Derek

National Show Facilities?

Well it's two weeks to go to our long-delayed National C&S Show. Entries have to be submitted by Monday 22nd and I'm trying to make plans. Please could someone local, or who has visited other events at the Newark Showground, advise what the on-site catering will be like on that Saturday? Also, c...

Re: Ideas for branch meetings

As described in this old thread, three educational films featuring c&s are available from South Africa and make for an interesting evening's entertainment. I have just been informed that an Australian society recently used them. https://www.forum.bcss.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=282180 Best wishes, D...

Re: Net curtain for preventing scorching

Think about pots as well as plant surfaces .... a black pot in sunshine will heat up surprisingly! Providing complete shade for your pots will help. Pushing pots together is an easy way to start.

Re: Zone 6 Convention NW London Sunday 24th July 2022

Unfortunately C&V Cacti will not be selling plants at the convention tomorrow. Chris felt unwell today after covid spread around staff at his workplace during this last week. Vicky sends their apologies, but obviously they have to stay away to avoid spreading it further. We wish for a speedy rec...

Re: Zone 6 Convention NW London Sunday 24th July 2022

We have to give numbers for catering to the University today, but can probably issue a few more tickets until Friday if there are any late comers. We do have lots of space. The programme has now been arranged: 10:00 am    Doors open for plant and raffle ticket sales 11:00 am    Introductions & A...

Re: CITES protected?

Two issues here. 1 ... 2 the fact that a nation has insufficient resources to feed its population, resulting in criminal acts carried out by individuals only trying to feed family. Really? This implies it would be acceptable for hungry people in the UK to go out and dig up wild bluebells to sell? I...

Re: CITES protected?

These are indeed awful photos. Thanks ChrisR for taking the trouble to publicise this continuing problem, the scale of which is alarming. Your write-up in the latest Mesemb Study Group Bulletin 37(1) is excellent, as is the accompanying article by Andy Young, which urges us all to do more propagatio...
