Re: Selling plants - Plant passports - Inspection
Yes there do seem to be lots of grey areas so I've found it confusing. I was wondering if they may publish more clarifications over time as it's been a few years since it was introduced. With Mealy bugs and such, they aren't covered by the passport. It's only 'notifiable pests'. https://planthealthp...

Re: Selling plants - Plant passports - Inspection
I think we have to take on board that DEFRA like many other government agencies is underfunded, under-resourced understaffed and overwhelmed. They can’t do what they need to do .... thoroughly and properly. Consequently it's a token gesture. A paper pushing exercise to keep ministers happy and to k...

Re: Selling plants - Plant passports - Inspection
This topic creates a lot of discussion and people appear to be deeply entrenched in their opinions, not all of which can be correct. Personally, I have used this link https://planthealthportal.defra.gov.uk/trade/plant-passports/am-i-a-professional-operator/ and, with many years experience of workin...

Re: Selling plants - Plant passports - Inspection
If clear records are kept, the cost of each visit should be limited to the approx £125 figure previously mentioned. The whole system seems to be pointless though as it only applies to distance selling and not direct selling which defeats the whole object of traceability. The extra paperwork isn't t...

Re: Selling plants - Plant passports - Inspection
I operate as a business even though I suspect a lot of private sellers probably have a bigger turnover than me. I get charged £123 for a half an hour visit, which is basically to check my paperwork rather than look for pests Thank you. Yes that was the problem when I consider resuming selling on eB...

Selling plants - Plant passports - Inspection
When I found out about the new plant passport rules for selling plants online a few years ago, I did the Application for Official Registration (which just needs to be done once and is free). I also thought I'd try the plant passports for 1 year so I could keep selling online. Because of covid lockdo...

Re: EU Plant Passport Scheme
I have been communicating with Plant Heritage about this and I know that they have been to and fro with DEFRA trying to get a definitive reply. So far no luck, except for: Plants being mailed within the UK which are not being sold do not need plant passports. This has come from DEFRA. The situation...

Re: EU Plant Passport Scheme
Hi. Are there any updates about how the new legislation is being applied to individuals selling a small amount of plants from their own personal collection? Has anyone gone through registration and inspection - I was concerned that it said the minimum cost of an annual inspection is £123 and they ch...
